Masters Project
I am currently woking on a Masters in Documentary Film in International Development at De Montfort University in the UK.The course is part of the MA in Humanities by Independent Study and I am doing the course part-time, via distance learning. With help from my supervisor Dr Claire Monk, I have designed the course to try to pull together and formalise some of my experience and learning achieved in nearly 20 years working as a filmmaker, cameraman and photojournalist in the international development and environment sectors.
If you are interested to find out more about my work, please see the Wild Dog website. I am still available for work!
Goals
These Open University sums up my thinking with a page entitled CPD. It says:"Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the learning and development you undertake that contributes to your being effective in your profession."
UNTV
During the next phase of the project, I am hoping to gather some oral histories from my friends and former colleagues from United Nations TV (UNTV).I also hope to hear from people that lived through the war in Yugoslavia that may have seen the films that UNTV made at that time. I would be interested to know what people thought of them and if they felt that they made a difference. I am also interested to hear from anyone that may have studied the Bosnian, Croatian or Serbian media during the war.
For more information see my UNTV page here.
Film & Technology
One of the other areas I am hoping to look at is how technology has played it part in opening up documentary to new producers, how the interest is transforming distribution models and if this can help deliver change in developing countries. What are the barriers that lie between the filmmaker and making a difference? If you have any thoughts on this theme, please let me know.
